Chelation Therapy Vancouver
Cardio-Therapy Treatment Program: Taking care of your heart with Chelation Treatment
In Canada, more people die from cardiovascular disease than from anything else. This is the disease you should be most concerned about avoiding as you get older.
We are careful to protect ourselves when we drive a car, but automobile accidents account for less than 1% of all deaths. We are very wary of AIDS risk, but again, this feared disease accounts for less than 1% of all deaths.
However, your chances of dying from cardiovascular disease are 36%. And the latest figures show that the problems start early. 21% of Canadians between 45 and 49 have already been diagnosed with heart disease, stroke risk, or high blood pressure, and over 40% of Canadians in their 60s suffer from some sort of cardiovascular disease.
These are grim statistics, and everyone should be taking them seriously. To help you avoid becoming part of this crowd, we offer a simple 3-step process:
1) Get Tested
The best way to avoid cardiovascular disease is to evaluate your current condition, and then take action to overcome any risk factors that apply to you. The fact is, more than half the people who die from heart attacks exhibit no previous signs or symptoms, so getting an analysis of your risk factors is a critical first step.
Cardiovascular Risk Profile
Most people equate their cholesterol level with their risk of heart disease. However, the reality is that half of all heart attacks and strokes actually occur in people who have normal cholesterol levels. So there is much more to cardiovascular problems than can be understood by examining plaque and cholesterol alone.
Over the past 15-20 years, there has been a great increase in biologic understanding about cardiovascular risk. Dr. Wang and Dr. Aberdour have designed a thorough risk assessment protocol that includes an analysis of the most persuasive of these markers, through a specialized blood test, heart rate variability test, and nutritional analysis.
Testing of this caliber is not commonly available. It will provide you with an accurate picture of your cardiovascular health, and allow for appropriate preventive action to be undertaken. (Read more about testing).
2) Consider Chelation Treatment
Unless you've been extremely diligent about taking care of your heart over the years, the process of aging is having some unwanted effects. There is a build-up of deposits in the arteries, a loss of elasticity, and a general weakening of the cardiovascular system, leading to a significant overall reduction in blood flow.
This reduced volume of blood flow means less oxygen is able to reach the tissues, and cellular nourishment is drastically reduced. As a result the heart has to work harder to keep things going, so susceptibility to hypertension (high blood pressure), heart attack, and stroke is greatly increased. In addition, as cells and tissues throughout the body are not getting the nourishment they need, your whole system begins to go into decline.
There is a safe and effective way to counteract this deterioration. If you are over 50, you should consider Chelation Treatment.
The word Chelation comes from the Greek word chele which means “to claw” or “to bind”. It is a safe and non-toxic means of relieving arteriosclerosis and other related heart problems that may be developing. In arteriosclerosis, the blood vessels become damaged and then obstructed by the build-up of plaque. During and following Chelation Therapy, this plaque is slowly dissolved and the blood flow throughout the body improves significantly.
This is a true anti-aging treatment. It not only contributes to a stronger cardiovascular system, but to better overall health. A stronger and more vital body is the result.
Chelation Therapy is administered intravenously using the chelating substances EDTA (ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid), glucoronic acid, dimethylglycine, magnesium aspartate, and magnesium citrate. These substances have the ability to “hook on” to plaque buildup in the arteries (and/or to atoms of heavy metals). These “chelators” and the atoms they bind onto are then eliminated through the kidneys via the urine. An infusion of vitamins and minerals is also given at the same time to fortify the nutritional level of the body.
Chelation Therapy has been found to:
- improve coronary circulation
- reduce leg cramps
- reduce blood pressure
- lower blood cholesterol
- improve vision
- improve liver function
- reduce leg pigmentation
- relieve angina pectoris
- heal poor circulation ulcers
- reduce heart irritability
- lower blood fats
- remove excessive iron deposits
- improve varicose veins
- relieve signs of senility
3) Implement a Nutritional Protocol
When your cells have access to the proper quantity and variety of nutrients, they can function at their peak level. Cardiovascular health depends upon an optimum nutrient pool in your body, and each person’s needs are different. We can recommend an appropriate nutrient protocol depending on your particular requirements. Some of the most important nutrients for heart health are:
Fish Oil – contains the omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA which can reduce triglyceride levels, lower LDL cholesterol, improve elasticity of the arteries, and reduce inflammation/CRP levels.
Coenzyme Q10 – is a key fuel for the heart’s energy production, increases the heart’s pumping ability, and has been shown to reduce angina and prolong life in patients with heart disease.
Vitamins B6, B12, and Folic Acid – have been shown to reduce homocysteine levels in the blood.
Calcium, Magnesium, and Selenium – key heart health minerals that stabilize the heart's electrical system, facilitate circulation, and contribute to overall heart function.
L-Carnitine – increases energy production in heart tissue.
L-Arginine – Improves blood supply and reverses artery damage throughout the body, increases blood flow to the heart, decreases risk of blood clots, lowers elevated blood pressure, reduces cholesterol and prevents oxidation of LDL cholesterol.
Vitamins C and E – work together to promote heart strength.
Call us to get started
We strongly recommend Cardiovascular Risk Profile testing to assess your situation. It can be arranged by calling the clinic and speaking to your Naturopathic Doctor about an appointment.
Cardiovascular disease is a scourge that sweeps up many people from middle age onwards. However the good news is that if you take the appropriate steps, it is largely preventable.
More About Cardio Testing
Cardiovascular Risk Profile Blood Test Parameters
Our specially designed blood test measures a wide range of important markers for cardiovascular disease potential:
Inflammation (CRP)
Inflammation is the body’s response to injury, infection, allergy, free radicals, and other damage, but it is also a major player in cardiovascular disease. Almost every cardiovascular risk factor is associated with inflammation in some way. The most highly sensitive blood marker for inflammation is C-Reactive Protein (CRP), which is a better predictive factor for cardiovascular disease risk than cholesterol. CRP can help determine cardiovascular risk in otherwise healthy individuals (including those with normal cholesterol levels), providing an early warning sign that will allow for early preventive action.
Homocysteine
Another significant marker for cardiovascular risk is your homocysteine level. Homocysteine is an amino acid that is highly toxic to blood vessels, and contributes to the buildup of plaque on blood vessel walls. The homocysteine level in your blood is up to 40 times more predictive of heart disease risk than your cholesterol level. Recent research also shows that elevated levels of homocysteine are associated with DNA deterioration, an elevated risk of Alzheimer’s disease and memory loss, and increased complications in diabetes, lupus, and other chronic diseases. Homocysteine levels are increased by smoking, alcohol overuse, eating red meat, high fat diets, excessive amounts of coffee, oral contraceptive use, and aging.
Triglycerides
Triglycerides (TG) are a form of fat that can be found in the blood. High triglycerides are associated with other factors that are known to increase cardiovascular disease risk, such as cholesterol, inflammation, and excessive carbohydrate intake. A reduction in elevated TG levels is associated with reduced incidence of cardiovascular disease.
Total Cholesterol
High cholesterol has long been associated with cardiovascular risk. But it’s more complicated than that. Cholesterol is actually a very useful substance. We all need it to survive, and elevated levels may only be a clue to another underlying problem. For example, cholesterol is an antioxidant as well as a repair material, so elevated levels may indicate that the body is rallying its troops to protect you from some other source of damage. Simply lowering your cholesterol with drugs is a bit like shooting the messenger. It ignores all the potential underlying problems. So it’s important to determine which cholesterol levels are high (HDL or LDL) and how they relate to other important markers.
HDL Cholesterol (good cholesterol)
HDL is desirable in that it actually removes excess cholesterol from the tissues. In the frequently cited Framingham Heart Study, individuals who had high concentrations of HDL were at lower risk of cardiovascular disease than those who had low levels.
LDL Cholesterol (bad cholesterol).
The majority of the cholesterol found in our blood is carried in this form. LDL is thought to contribute to the beginnings of clogged arteries by being ingested by our immune cells. There is an increased risk of heart disease when this type of cholesterol is elevated.
Apolipoprotein A-1 (ApoA)
ApoA is the primary protein found in HDL. It is found in higher concentrations in women than in men. As a contributing molecule in the formation of HDL, decreased ApoA-1 levels can identify individuals who may develop cardiovascular disease at an earlier age.
Apolopoprotein B (ApoB)
ApoB is the major protein found in LDL. It is believed to increase the uptake of LDL from the blood, leading to increased amounts of cholesterol plaques being deposited into the arteries. Elevated levels of this molecule indicate risk for atherosclerosis.
Lipoprotein (a) or Lp (a)
Lp (a) is complexed with LDL. Recent research shows that Lp (a) is associated with the development of atherosclerosis in ways similar to LDL, and is a strong indicator for cerebrovascular disease.
Lipoprotein Ratios
Studies reveal that lipoprotein ratios are better predictors of cardiovascular risk than are the lipoprotein values themselves. These include:
- Cholesterol:Triglycerides – measures risk for coronary artery disease
- LDL:HDL – measures risk for coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure
- Total Cholesterol:HDL – measures risk for atherosclerosis
- ApoA1:ApoB – measures general cardiovascular risk
- Triglycerides:HDL – the best predictor for cardiovascular disease of all the ratios
Lipid Peroxides
Lipid peroxides are the products of chemical damage to the fatty acids of cell membranes caused by oxygen free radicals. They provide a measure of total serum lipid peroxidation, an indicator of whole body free radical activity. High levels of lipid peroxides are associated with heart disease, cancer, stroke, and aging.
Ferritin
Ferritin is used to assess iron stores in the body. Excess iron stores have been correlated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and a worsening condition in those with established CVD. Elevated iron stores have been shown to almost double the risk of heart attack in elderly patients. Excess iron in the body can act as a pro-oxidant, contributing to free radical damage of LDL cholesterol and impairing the proper function of the cells that line arteries, both of which can increase the risk of CVD. Increased ferritin levels have been associated with increased levels of circulating oxidized LDL. This damaged LDL is thought to play an important role in the development and course of atherosclerosis (arterial plaques).
Fibrinogen
Fibrinogen plays a role in blood clotting, encourages platelet aggregation and increases the viscosity of blood. It also binds lipoprotein in the arteries, a key part of the arterial plaque formation process. It may also be an inflammatory marker. Increased fibrinogen levels are associated with coronary artery disease and a greater risk of death from heart attack. Higher levels of fibrinogen are seen with older age, hypertension, high triglycerides, high total and LDL cholesterol, low HDL, obesity, smoking, diabetes, and psychological stress. Clearly lifestyle choices can play a major role in keeping fibrinogen levels in check.
RBC Mg
Magnesium is a vital electrolyte. It participates in over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body, without which we could not survive. Diabetes, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, and heart disease have all been associated with low magnesium levels. Magnesium deficiency is associated with a constriction of the coronary arteries causing a significant decrease in oxygen delivery to cardiac cells. Magnesium plays a significant role in the proper function of the heart.
Coenzyme Q10
Coenzyme Q10 is an important nutrient for all body cells as it is an important player in cellular energy production. CoQ10 levels decrease with age. Suboptimal CoQ10 levels have been correlated to several health problems including cardiovascular disease. Statin medications, prescribed to reduce cholesterol levels, are known to deplete CoQ10 levels in the body. CoQ10 is particularly important to the proper function of cells that have a high energy requirement, such as heart cells and the cells of the immune system.
Fasting Insulin
Elevated fasting insulin levels are indicative of insulin resistance, a risk factor for CVD. Insulin resistance is associated with other cardiovascular risk factors such as obesity and hypertension. Chromium supplementation has been shown to reduce elevated fasting insulin levels in some patients, and may help to reduce insulin resistance and associated cardiovascular disease risk.
Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) and Free Androgen Index (FAI)
In a study of 3,297 pre and perimenopausal women, low SHBG and high FAI were found to be strongly and consistently associated with cardiovascular risk factors. Increased testosterone and decreased SHBG are associated with increased abdominal fat, increased triglycerides, and decreased HDL.
Free Testosterone
A decline in testosterone in men with age is associated with an increase in cardiovascular risk. Reduced testosterone in men has also been associated with diabetes, coronary artery disease and metabolic syndrome.
Heart Rate Variability Test
Heart Rate Variability (HRV) refers to the beat-to-beat variability in heart rate, and studying the patterns of this variability has been found to provide an excellent assessment of cardiovascular health. Using similar technology to EKG, HRV measures minute changes in each heartbeat, and the adaptability of the heart to various conditions.
This test is also able to measure the contribution of our various nervous systems to cardiovascular function. The sympathetic nervous system, our “fight or flight” system, and our parasympathetic or healing nervous system, can both be evaluated by HRV.
Lifestyle Factors
Physical inactivity is a risk factor for cardiovascular problems. Regular exercise can reduce body weight, improve serum lipids and cholesterol, and improve blood pressure. Ideally, you need 60 minutes of light physical activity every day, or 30 minutes of moderate activity. Are you active or inactive?
An oxidant diet can be debilitating. Oxidative stress is an important component of the atherosclerotic process. A poor diet overloaded with the wrong types of fat (see Oils & Fats), fried foods, red meat, and too much or the wrong carbohydrates (see Overcoming Carbohydrates) can contribute greatly to cardiovascular risk.
Mental stress from anger, anxiety, nervousness, workplace stress, money problems, or family or relationship problems weakens the cardiovascular system. Learn to de-stress and relax as part of your daily routine.
Our Extensive Diagnostic Methods
Getting a clear picture of your health
As licensed primary care physicians, our first objective with you is to undertake a comprehensive diagnosis. Because an accurate diagnosis is essential for uncovering the root causes of any problem, our diagnostic procedure is quite extensive and includes:
- An hour long interview where information is gathered regarding your medical history, lifestyle, and chief complaints. A non-invasive physical examination is also conducted.
- Dietary evaluation. This allows us to better understand what your current diet looks like and how it may be contributing to your health complaints
- Laboratory blood and biochemical testing.
- Specialized testing or cardiovascular assessment if required.
- Extensive analysis by your physician of all the information that has been gathered, until an understanding can be reached and a health strategy is formulated.
- An hour long consultation with you to review the test results, present our diagnosis, and offer our recommendations.
Once our testing procedures are complete, your naturopathic physician has a wealth of information to analyze and correlate. This provides us with the information we need to help identify the underlying causes of any problem, and to present to you a clear picture of the current state of your health.
We will provide you with a color-coded chart showing the results of your blood test, giving you information about each indicator and graphically showing the areas where improvement needs to be made. You can easily compare these results with each future blood test to see how you are improving.
We will also provide you with dietary recommendations, so that you can begin to apply the dietary changes that will work best for your unique situation.
This extensive analysis is part of what sets us apart from other clinics. Our in-depth approach can be quite different from what you would experience elsewhere. For instance, our comprehensive blood and biochemical testing involves the following elements:
- It provides 65 blood analysis “markers” for the physician to analyze. This is a much broader analysis than is commonly undertaken under the conventional medical system.
- It is an invaluable preventive measure that is undertaken for each patient. It helps us to gain a complete understanding of the current state of your health, so that we can locate problems and detect any adverse trends at an early stage. The current medical system (MSP) does not encourage medical doctors to undertake preventive blood testing. You must already show symptoms of a disease before a blood test can be undertaken.
- It measures “dysfunction” rather than “disease”. Standard blood tests measure results using a “normal reference range” that is very broad. That is why you almost always hear that your blood test results are “normal”. Normal reference ranges are useful for diagnosing illnesses when you are already sick and exhibiting significant symptoms, but they won't catch the subtle abnormalities that may lead to disease. We utilize “functional reference ranges” to identify changes in your body at an early stage, so you can take action to halt a situation that may progress later to a serious disorder.
This functional approach to analysis has proven to be very successful in the practice of preventive medicine, and enables us to better serve our patients.
"[Dr. Wang] performed an analysis and work up more intense than any doctor I had seen before. He then took the time to go over every test result and explain what it all meant, in a clear and understandable fashion. He found the causes of my problems, and in so doing was able to give me a true picture of my health - which up to this point no one had been able to do."
R.K., Vancouver
I'm hooked. I can't say enough. No other naturopathic doctor has a knowledge base or support system like this, that I've seen."
D.C., Vancouver
"The clinic specializes in conducting comprehensive scientific testing and evaluation to determine the cause of a patient's symptoms.....For me, it was a breath of fresh air finding a medical practitioner who knew what they were talking about and was willing to share the knowledge with you in a way that a layman could understand."

Heavy Metals Detox
How toxic Heavy Metals could be ruining your health
Heavy metal poisoning can be difficult to diagnose. But it may cause conditions such as hormonal imbalances, thyroid problems, neurological disturbances, learning problems, depression, chronic fatigue, food allergies, and parasites. Heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and others are not metabolized by the body, but accumulate in the tissues and adversely affect the body chemistry.
At Dr. David Wang & Associates Naturopathic Clinic, we specialize in identifying and safely treating heavy metals toxicity. We also work with biological dentists who specialize in the safe removal of mercury dental amalgams, thus providing a complete protocol for proper detoxification from this major source of mercury build-up.
How toxic mercury build-up affects your health
Considerable research is now concluding that long-term exposure to even low levels of mercury may be a root cause of diseases like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Alzheimer’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and a wide range of neurological, psychological, and auto-immune illnesses.
Mercury’s dangers have been recognized for a long time. In the late 1800s, for example, British hat makers working with mercury developed abnormal mood swings and plummeting IQs, leading to the descriptive term “mad as a hatter”.
Mercury is a powerful poison.Published research has shown that mercury is more toxic than lead, cadmium, and even arsenic. Furthermore, there is no known toxic threshold for mercury and toxicologists have stated that no amount of exposure can be considered “safe”.Scientific research has demonstrated that mercury, even in small amounts, can damage the brain, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, thyroid gland, pituitary gland, adrenal gland, blood cells, enzymes and hormones, and suppress the body’s immune system. Mercury has been shown to pass the placental membrane in pregnant women and cause permanent damage to the brain of the developing baby.
The disease symptoms of mercury poisoning are insidious and overlap with the symptoms of many other diseases. It has been called a “great masquerader” because it is not easy to detect. Symptoms can include nausea, lack of appetite, weight loss, abdominal pain, diarrhea, kidney problems, skin irritation, respiratory distress, swollen gums and mouth sores, numbness and tingling, tremors and loss of co-ordination, vision and hearing loss, memory loss, personality changes, headaches, allergic reactions, insomnia, and irritability.
Sources of Mercury Toxicity
As a single element, mercury is a poisonous metal to which we are all exposed through air, water, soil and food. Mercury’s toxicity is related to the amount absorbed. The mercury absorbed from all sources accumulates in body organs and tissues, mostly in the kidneys, but also in the brain, lungs, liver and gastrointestinal tract.
The World Health Organization has calculated the average human daily dose of mercury from various sources (ug = micrograms): (1)
- Dental amalgams:3.0-17.0 ug/day (mercury vapor)
- Fish and seafood:2.3 ug/day
- Other food: 0.3 ug/day
- Air and water: Negligible traces
They also state that it is “not scientifically possible to set a level for mercury below which mercury related symptoms will not occur”
Clearly, the two most dangerous sources of toxic mercury exposure are dental amalgams, where mercury vapor is released due to chewing and brushing, and fish consumption.
The damage caused by mercury toxicity
Mercury toxicity has usually been studied after acute short-term exposure (hours or days) but not after chronic low long-term exposure, such as would occur with dental amalgams or a fish-based diet. Exposure from dental amalgams occurs without interruption for many years, and if 3 to 17 micrograms are accumulated each day in mercury vapor alone, this amounts to 1,095–6,200 micrograms per year, or as much as 120 mg over 20 years – a huge amount
Studies using nanogram amounts (1/1000 of a microgram) have shown inhibition of immune function. One study showed that 16 tiny amalgam fill ings in the mouth of a monkey induced a significant increase in mercury and antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the mouth and intestine. Another study showed 12 amalgam fillings in sheep caused a 50% reduction of kidney function.
Studies in sheep that were implanted with radioactively tagged mercury fillings in their teeth showed that the mercury quickly traveled from the amalgams to the brain, kidneys, colon, liver, endocrine glands, and across the placenta into the unborn fetus. These results were noted after only several months of normal chewing by the sheep. (2)
A recent study conducted at the University of Calgary showed that trace amounts of mercury can cause nerve damage that is characteristic of the damage found in Alzheimer’s disease(3) The research found that exposure to mercury caused the formation of “neurofibrillar tangles", which is one of the two diagnostic markers for Alzheimer’s disease. Prior research has already shown that mercury can cause formation of the other Alzheimer’s disease marker – “amyloid plaques".
The researchers noted that, to date, no other material or metal tested, including aluminum, has produced even remotely similar reactions, and that the level of mercury exposure used in the test was well below those levels found in many humans with mercury dental amalgams.Additional research has shown that Alzheimer's diseased patients have at least 3 times higher blood levels of mercury than controls.
Another recent study demonstrated a link between mercury exposure and Alzheimer’s Disease. The study by was carried out by a group of Swiss researchers and published in the Journal of Neurochemistry. (5) The Swiss researchers showed that exposure of neuroblastoma cells to extremely low levels of mercury produces all the classical cellular biochemical lesions found in the Alzheimer’s diseased brain. Further research showed that mercury in the brain (on post-mortem) is approximately proportional to the number of amalgam fillings in the mouth. (6)
A main source of mercury poisoning is the ingestion of mercury-contaminated food, usually fish. When lake, river or ocean water is contaminated with methylmercury compounds, the mercury accumulates and magnifies in the flesh of the fish. Organic mercury concentrations can be more than 1,000 times greater in the fish than in the surrounding water. Mercury concentrations in wild fish generally increase with the size of the fish, so that fish such as tuna, swordfish, or marlin can have much higher levels than mackerel, herring, or salmon.
However, a recent study reported in the journal Science found that both wild and farmed salmon had high levels of a range of toxic compounds, including mercury. (4) The levels were found to be significantly higher in farmed salmon, and the authors recommended severe restrictions on the amount of farmed salmon in one’s diet.
The toxification of marine life is a growing problem. Studies in the Canadian arctic show that seals and beluga whales have experienced a 200-400% increase in mercury levels in the past 25 years. In the US, studies of fish in more than 50,000 bodies of water in more than 40 states have shown such high mercury levels that health agencies have warned against consuming them.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Get tested for heavy metals
Your naturopathic doctor can test your body for levels of a variety of heavy metals, including mercury (through a stool or hair sample). Armed with this knowledge you will be able to institute a program to deal with the heavy metals that have accumulated in your tissues, and eliminate them before they can lead to serious health problems.
Eat non-toxic fish
Avoid consumption of large fish species, such as tuna, king mackerel, sharks, whales, sailfish, swordfish, sable fish, halibut, and any other large fish near the top of the food chain. Eat only a moderate amount of smaller fish species such as herring, mackerel, salmon, and sardines. Avoid farmed fish unless evidence exists that they have been tested and found to be non-toxic.
Maintain a high pH
Mercury is converted into methylmercury (a highly toxic form) most effectively in highly acidic environments. Studies have shown that adjusting pH levels to more alkaline can inhibit this process.
Have your dental amalgams removed
Amalgam fillings contain approximately 50% mercury, usually over 0.5 grams, bonded together with other metals such as silver, tin, and copper, and have been in use since the 1830s. Until very recently, most professional dental associations worldwide have stated insistently that no mercury leaked from the amalgam bonds, but now there is conclusive evidence that mercury vapour is slowly released from amalgams and absorbed into the body.
If you decide to replace your amalgams with another type of filling, it is imperative that you consult a biolological dentist trained in the proper protocol for removal. There are very precise guidelines to follow in terms of correct sequence of removal, protective equipment for both patient and dental personnel, air filtering system, and detoxification measures.
There is a significant risk of a large exposure to mercury vapour when fillings are removed incorrectly. Removing amalgams without use of the proper protocols can cause absorption of more mercury in 10 minutes than in the previous 20 years – mostly through vapor inhalation but also through mucosal absorption. Safe removal and replacement of mercury requires that the dentist be trained in the correct methods of protecting you from this risk.
An accreditation program is offered to dentists by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT). This is a group of physicians, dentists, and research scientists who have developed the standards of care for safe and effective methods of dealing with toxic materials in the mouth, including mercury. Their web site address is www.iaomt.org
Dr. David Wang & Associates Naturopathic Clinic can recommend biological dentists who specialize in safe amalgam removal.
Eliminate the heavy metals from your tissues
Removing your dental amalgams is not enough. While this will eliminate a source of toxic secretions, it will not eliminate the poisons already stored in your body’s tissues from years of chewing and vapor emissions, or accumulations from other sources of heavy metals that you may have been exposed to. If you are unable to replace amalgam fillings due to cost or for other reasons, there are still important health benefits to be gained from removing the heavy metal toxicity build-up from your body.
The elimination of mercury and other heavy metals from your body is a complex procedure that must take into account a variety of factors relating to your current condition.

Immuno-Therapy Treatment Program
The natural way to fight influenza, viruses, infections, and disease
Viruses and infections are becoming an increasing health concern in today’s society. Many bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics, and new and more virulent strains of influenza are appearing each cold & flu season.
Every person needs an effective strategy to deal with the threats posed by such diseases. To start with, when symptoms begin to arise, recognize that your immune system is under attack and that action needs to be taken to support it. Taking on less work, getting plenty of sleep, meditating or other relaxation techniques will all help. You can also avoid heavy meals that draw too much energy for digestion, dairy products and sugar. Eat more warm soups and easily digested meals, and be sure to increase your fluid intake (2 litres of water a day is helpful).
But often these basic measures are not enough. There are specialized supplements and treatments that can be very effective in turning the tide. Dr. David Wang & Associates Naturopathic Clinic can provide you with a strategy to help you quickly recover your health, or help you build a stronger immune system to avoid the onset of disease conditions in the first place.
“Immunotherapy” is defined as “treatments that stimulate or restore the body’s immune system”.
The Immuno-Therapy Treatment Program at Dr. David Wang & Associates Naturopathic Clinic is designed to be your best defense against illness and disease. Our specialized treatments can help you recover from, or protect you against:
* Colds
* Influenza
* Fatigue
* Respiratory problems (congestion, bronchial conditions, Asthma)
* Viruses
* Infections, or
* Diseases (such as Hepatitis C, HIV, and Cancer)
If you become ill – book an appointment for consultation and treatment right away.
If you want to protect yourself before diseases strike – book an evaluation and we will recommend an effective strategy that reflects your special circumstances and can give your immune system a boost.
We can assist your body’s natural defense mechanisms utilizing specialized and highly effective natural therapies such as the ones described below:
Ozone Therapy
Ozone (O3) is simply a normal oxygen molecule with one extra oxygen atom attached. In the body it turns into peroxide, which is what your white blood cells use to fight infection or unhealthy cells, and stimulate the immune system. Ozone excels at killing bacteria, viruses, and other infections – and greatly increases the volume of oxygen received by the cells, which provides a big boost to cellular function.
Because of its many therapeutic properties, ozone can be used as part of a treatment plan for a wide variety of diseases. In fighting infectious illnesses, this therapy can “jump start” the body to a higher level of metabolism and immunity. It is commonly used against colds, influenza, pneumonia, cancers, hepatitis, auto-immune diseases, and infectious conditions. In the form of a topical salve, it is also very effective against skin conditions and infections.
Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy
Hydrogen peroxide is two molecules of hydrogen and two molecules of oxygen (H2O2). It is the body’s natural antibiotic, and the immune system’s first line of defense against any invading hostile organisms. The spring waters of Lourdes, famous for their healing powers, have a very high content of naturally occurring hydrogen peroxide.
Hydrogen peroxide increases the oxygen content of the blood, raises the energy producing ability of the cells, eliminates toxins, destroys bacteria, fungi, and viruses, and stimulates the production of gamma interferon.
Intravenous hydrogen peroxide therapy is used to treat acute and chronic infections, allergies, asthma and other lung disorders, vascular disease, arthritis, hepatitis, and immune disorders such as cancer. Hydrogen peroxide treatment is very safe and extremely therapeutic.
Nebulizer Treatment
Nebulized hydrogen peroxide is a treatment in which hydrogen peroxide is misted into the upper respiratory tract to act as a local antibacterial agent. Nebulizer units can be rented from the clinic for a week or more depending on your specific needs. With treatment at the clinic, other nebulized ingredients are also available – such as NAC, which helps to break up mucus so it can be cleared from the nose/sinuses, and Glutathione, which is used to treat chronic respiratory problems.
Intravenous Vitamin C
When the body is stressed by viral or bacterial invasion, its need for Vitamin C greatly increases. However, its response to Vitamin C is called a “threshold” response, meaning that very little happens until a high enough dose is reached – then the body’s immune system kicks in and utilizes the Vitamin C very dramatically. Fever subsides, organisms are killed, and the invasion is turned back. This threshold dose can be as much as 100,000 mg or more for serious challenges, and needs to be obtained intravenously.
Vitamin C is effective against viruses, serious bacteria, and even toxins, and can shorten the severity and duration of a cold. Vitamin C may also be a natural chemotherapeutic agent. Recent research found that high dose Vitamin C killed cancer cells or induced apoptosis (cell "suicide"), and nearly completely halted the growth of the surviving cancer cells. But unlike chemotherapeutic drugs, Vitamin C had no adverse affects on normal cells, and also had many positive effects including increased energy.
The researchers concluded that, “These findings give plausibility to IV ascorbic acid in cancer treatment, and have unexpected implications for treatment of infections where hydrogen peroxide may be beneficial.”

Intravenous Careseng
Careseng is a specially formulated natural product derived from the active ingredients in ginseng (ginsenosides), and has been used in cancer treatment. Animal studies with Careseng have shown apoptosis (cancer cell death) (1). Laboratory and preliminary clinical data indicate that in combination with conventional chemotherapy, the ginsenosides also sensitize cancer cells to conventional treatments.

Myers Cocktail
Tired? One of the benefits of a Myers Cocktail is that it provides an energy boost.
The Myers Cocktail is an IV array of nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other ingredients. If you are depleted or suffer from a disease, your body needs higher amounts of nutrients for proper healing. Through this IV “cocktail”, very high nutrient absorption rates are achieved. These nutrients travel through the bloodstream and are coaxed into the cells, “kick-starting ” them so that they produce energy more efficiently.
The general effect of a Myers Cocktail is a marked improvement in the energy capacity and function of cells. If your cells can function at their best, it's more likely you can recover from a health problem.
Many chronic conditions respond to Myers Cocktails, including fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, asthma, respiratory problems, and seasonal allergies. Those with a general lack of energy will find it provides an energy boost. Patients who are repeatedly ill with infections can benefit from an increased immune response, with less susceptibility to acute situations.
Specialized Supplementation
NAC (N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine)
NAC is a derivative of the amino acid l-cysteine and acts as a precursor for the antioxidant reduced glutathione (GSH), the main respiratory antioxidant. Studies have demonstrated the ability of NAC to increase intracellular GSH levels in red blood cells, liver cells, and lung cells. NAC has protective properties in disorders of the respiratory system, particularly bronchitis and influenza, and in conditions where intracellular GSH levels are depleted (such as HIV infections).
Serrapeptidase
As well as specializing in counteracting pain and inflammation, this enzyme excels at eliminating the excess mucous that is associated with chest colds, lung infections, asthma, sinus problems, and respiratory conditions.
Zinc
There is a significant amount of evidence to support the use of zinc to reduce the symptoms and duration of the common cold (Marshall 1998, Hulisz 2004). Zinc has been shown to reduce the duration of symptoms from 3.6 days in placebo groups to 1.4 days (Hulisz 2004). There have been at least 15 clinical trials performed to evaluate the effects of zinc on the common cold, and overall the results indicate that it provides significant benefits.
Thymus Extract
Oral thymus extract has been shown to be very helpful in reducing the incidence of recurrent respiratory tract infections in both adults and children (Maiorano et al 1989, Fiocchi et al 1986, Longo et al 1988, Galli et al 1990). This treatment can help to reduce the number of infections suffered, as well as the frequency of coughing.
Andrographis
In a systematic review of 4 clinical trials, Poolsup et al (2004) concluded that the evidence is substantial for the ability of Andrographis to reduce symptoms of upper respiratory infection. In particular, significant improvement has been reported for headaches, throat and nasal symptoms including sinusitis (Gabrielian et al), as well as myalgia, fever and coughs (Melchior et al).
Treatment of Asthma with IV nutrients
Asthma is an increasing problem in Canada as well as other countries. Although there are drugs designed to treat asthma, they all have inherent risks and side effects. There is a natural means of asthma treatment that is utilized at Dr. David Wang & Associates Naturopathic Clinic, which can include the intravenous (IV) application of a formulation of natural nutrients (including vitamin C, magnesium, zinc, and trace minerals). This IV treatment has been shown to be very effective, as evidenced by a recent study conducted at the Sante Fe Center for Allergy and Environmental Medicine in Sante Fe, New Mexico, USA.
In this study, 43 patients with both acute and chronic asthma were treated over various time spans with the IV nutrient formulation. The following results were noted:
* Overall average improvement (including shorter time periods) 45%
* Average improvement for patients treated for 5.82 months 57%
* Average improvement for patients treated for 12.58 months 95%
The researchers concluded that IV treatment with multiple natural nutrients may be of great benefit to those who suffer from both acute and chronic asthma, with greater benefit the longer that patients receive treatment.

Laser Therapy
What is Light Laser Therapy?
Laser therapy is the use of monochromatic light emission from a low intensity laser diode (250 milliwatts or less) or an array of high intensity super luminous diodes (providing total optical power in the 1000-2000 milliwatt range). Conditions treated include musculoskeletal injuries, chronic and degenerative conditions and wounds. The light source is placed in contact with the skin allowing the photon energy to penetrate tissue, where it interacts with various intracellular biomolecules resulting in the restoration of normal cell morphology and function. This also enhances the body's natural healing processes.
Low Intensity Laser Therapy Systems (LILT)
The Technology
This dynamic emerging technology utilizes super luminous and laser diodes to irradiate abnormal tissue with photons. These are particles of energy that are absorbed by a variety of micro-molecules within the cell, a process which initiates a number of positive physiological responses. In essence, light energy is converted into biochemical energy. The result - normal cell morphology and function are restored. The process is curative and as logic dictates, symptoms disappear.
Light in its various forms has been used for healing from the time of the ancient Egyptian and Greek civilizations. With recent advances in the engineering of devices and the development of appropriate protocols for effective therapeutic application, dramatic benefits and treatment of many complex medical conditions are achievable. The BioFlex System combines numerous sophisticated engineering advances with the capacity to control all parameters such as frequency, duty cycle, energy density, duration, etc. An infinitive range of protocols can then be delivered to tissue in standard fashion or a customized basis.
Advantages of Laser Therapy:
- Non-invasive
- Non-toxic
- Easily applied
- Highly effective
- Cure rate > 95%
- No known negative side effects
Some of the physiological effects of low intensity laser therapy
Short Term Effects:
- Production and release of beta-endorphins (these are morphine like substances produced by various cells in the body that inhibit the sensation of pain)
- Cortisol production is increased (cortisol is the precursor of cortisone). This enables the body to combat the stress associated with trauma or the disease process
- The short-term effect is significant in 5-10% of cases during or after the conclusion of the initial treatment, but is not as important as the long term or cumulative effect
Long Term or Cumulative Effect
- ATP (adenosine triphosphate) production is increased resulting in improved cellular metabolism
- DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) production; protein building block of tissue is substantially increased
- Neurotransmission is facilitated due to elevated levels of serotonin and acetylcholine
- Mitochondrial activity is stimulated resulting in cell replication etc. (i.e. replacement, regeneration and repair of abnormal cells)
- Modulation of macrophages, fibroblasts and other cells
- Angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels)
- Regulates cell membrane potential, essential in Na, Cl and K ion transfer (electrolyte balance)
- Cytokines and other chemicals enhancing cellular communications are released
Other Effects
- The immune response is stimulated
- Lymphatic drainage is improved
- The histamine response is positively altered
- Production of growth hormone is increased
- The body's natural healing processes are enhanced
The beneficial physiological changes noted above are the result of tissue regeneration and cellular stimulation. Many other positive activities are modulated including the humoral and cerebral spinal fluid effects which are highly significant and are currently under investigation in research laboratories to accurately delineate the scientific aspects of this process.

Client Testimonials
"Since starting with the laser (BioFlex), I have had some outstanding results in being able to get our athletes back to the game and practice. I have no hesitations to give this unit my full Endorsement."
Chuck Mooney, Head Trainer, Toronto Raptors
My treatment began in early December. By the beginning of February I was able to go off my medication for pain control. Treatment by treatment the discomfort lessened until I was totally pain free. I have returned to my previous active life, playing good golf this past summer, am able to entertain and enjoy the life that I was given back to me through the extraordinary laser treatments.
As a footnote, I would like to mention that I am 83 years of age, but feel twenty year younger with this renewal.

Preventive Medicine – Your optimal health strategy
The time to start an effective health program is not once you are sick – but while you are still well.
Today in Canada, the number of people dying from adult-onset diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s continues to rise. Yet voluminous research shows that the risk of these diseases can be significantly reduced with good preventive strategies.
The sad reality is that most Canadians live in a manner that leads to disease formation, unaware that many diseases can progress quietly, without any obvious symptoms at first. When symptoms finally do become apparent, it is because the disease is well advanced. And unfortunately, the conventional medical system is geared towards crisis-intervention once diseases are established, not to preventing them in the first place or to catching them in their early stages.
In British Columbia, 42 cents out of every tax dollar is spent on health services. And 70% of that is spent trying to stave off death in the last 3 years of life, at the point where attacking full-blown diseases is the only strategy left. Disease prevention is a strategy that is neither practiced nor funded under the current system.
The fact is, disease is a process and sets in gradually. Anyone who’s had a cold can appreciate how that works. And the reverse is also true – healing is a process as well. So both health and disease are processes on a continuum, where we are often neither completely sick nor completely well, but moving through the many “shades of gray” in between.
As your body declines into a disease state, you usually don’t feel sick enough to be concerned in the early stages. But over a period of time you might feel more fatigue, headaches, joint aches, indigestion, and have diminished functions of memory, mental sharpness, and so on. All of which are subtle changes on a cellular level that can have great meaning beyond being a minor irritant.
The ideal healthcare strategy is to head off these disease processes before they can interfere with your enjoyment of life. That is the conept of prevention.
The naturopathic doctors at our clinic are trained as Prevention Experts. We look for the underlying causes of illness – in the “shades of gray” where diseases begin to grow – rather than merely trying to suppress any overt symptoms. We undertake a thorough analysis of your current state of health, utilizing proven science-based methods, then offer a preventive health strategy that is customized to your unique metabolic requirements and health condition.
A simple preventive strategy, along with regular re-testing to monitor your condition as time goes on, can make a huge difference to your long-term health. This professional approach is what is missing from most people’s health strategy.
A common response to the idea of prevention is “But I try to eat healthy food, exercise a little, and take some vitamins”.
If this sounds like you, you have lots of company. The fact remains, although many people try to improve their health, a large number still have health deficiencies and problems. Why?
- Biochemical individuality: Each of us is metabolically and biochemically unique, and the micronutrient requirements for one person may be quite different from what another person needs.
- Absorption: Although you may eat correctly and take supplements, if you don't absorb all the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other essential micronutrients properly, you will have deficiencies. (Your digestive functions go into a sharp decline after the age of 40, eventually costing you up to 80% of your ability to absorb nutrients).
- Micronutrient deficiencies: Health conditions such as arthritis, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and Alzheimer’s can all arise as a result of micronutrient deficiencies.
- Aging: Our micronutrient requirements at age 30 are quite different from our requirements at age 40, 50 or beyond.
- Lifestyle: Alcohol, drugs, smoking, stress, under-excercise, over-exercise, dietary deficiencies, and aging all have an impact on your micronutrient status and needs.
- Misinformation: Due to the above factors, many people assume they are getting appropriate levels of nutrients but are not. Spending hundreds of dollars on supplement products does not work if you don't know what your body requires.
Each cell of your body is like an individual household. It monitors its needs, distributes the resources it has, and does whatever it must in order to survive. When the nutrients it needs are not available or not absorbed, cellular function declines and the foundation of your health is compromised.
But if your cells have access to the quantity and variety of nutrients demanded by your particular biochemical requirements, they can function at their peak level (see Are You Nutrient Deficient?).
That is the foundation for good health. By identifying your body's needs and designing a health strategy to provide them, you can achieve optimal health.
If you want your good health to last, you will need to be responsible for it. There is no reason to risk your life from middle age onwards by pretending you are invulnerable to disease. Find out where you stand. Initiate a Personal Health Strategy that can keep your health at an optimal level.
Weight Loss
How Our Naturopathic Approach to Weight Loss is Different
Treat the whole person
As naturopathic doctors we take your whole health into consideration. While we work with you to achieve your ideal weight, we will also determine if other risk factors are negatively impacting your health and work with you to reduce these as well. We are prevention experts and we care about helping you to feel better, while also helping you to reduce your risk factors for various diseases so that you feel better longer.
Treat the underlying cause
In many cases, weight gain is simply a matter of energy imbalance – more calories consumed than expended. However, if you have tried dieting and exercising or other weight loss programs and nothing seems to work, there may be other underlying factors to consider. For instance, liver dysfunction and lymphatic blockage are common problems encountered in people struggling to lose weight. A naturopathic doctor will work with you to determine why you are struggling with your weight.
Our unique approach to evaluating each individual
At Dr. David Wang & Associates Naturopathic Clinic, we collect over 500 health indicators through a combination of personal history, physical exam, biochemical assessment (a comprehensive 65-point laboratory blood and urine analysis), and an in-depth computerized nutritional analysis to provide you with a complete picture of what is going on in your body at the biochemical/cellular level, as well as how your general health and nutrition may be impacting your efforts to lose weight.
Did you know:
- A lack of certain vitamins and/or minerals can disrupt your metabolism and sap your energy, not only causing you to gain unwanted weight but also making it more difficult to exercise as often as you may want to?
- Hormone imbalances can cause you to carry excess weight due to a slowing of your metabolism and/or an increase in water retention?
- Food intolerances can cause bloating and water retention that can prevent you from achieving your desired weight/shape?
- Liver congestion is often overlooked, but is an important regulating metabolism in detoxification during weight loss.
The naturopathic doctors at our clinic have the tools to determine if these or other imbalances are causing you to struggle with your weight. We also have a variety of natural approaches to help you rebalance your body and achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
"I was an overweight female with high blood pressure and on my way to osteoporosis. Dr. Wang remedied these maladies, so that I am now a vibrant able-bodied person with people complimenting me and wondering how I accomplished such great health results."
